Coffee cultivation in Indonesia was introduced during the Dutch colonial period in the late 1600s and 1700s. Sumatra Mandheling is a classic shade-grown coffee often found on or around the volcanic slopes around Mount Leuser. Mandheling is a local name but does not define a precise region in Sumatra but generally refers to the north end of the island around Aceh where most of the best coffee growing areas are concentrated. The ancient lush ecosystem, climate, and unique soil properties all contribute to the richness of this coffee in the cup.

  • This dark (full city +) roast Fair-Trade varietal is Typica and Catimor, the process is wet-hulled. Any decaf we offer will always be Swiss Water Decaffeinated (the healthiest decaffeination process that only uses water to decaffeinate as opposed to chemicals generally used).  Growing altitude is between 750 – 1500 m.a.s.l, The flavor profile is earthy, medium body and acidity, buttery with notes of dark chocolate, herbs, and spice.
